Overview of the Best Packable Daypack

Below I have packed enough gear for 4 days in a warm location, say Hawaii or Mexico. The goal is to see if we can fit it inside the Outlander 20L bag, one of the best packable daypacks I have found. My gear was kept to a minimum, yet I didn’t skimp on necessities. I included 4 sets of clothes, plus all the toiletries and gear to keep me happy for 4 days in paradise. Since the clothes you are wearing during travel count towards the 4 days, I only packed the remaining 3 days into the bag.

In addition to the clothes, I packed some luxuries into this bag. You wouldn’t think there would be extra room for such trivial items such as a travel towel, headphones, or a tablet. But they all managed to fit just fine into this 20L packable daypack. Look how small this bag is, the bag pictured with my gear above is actually not much bigger than my tablet. It is certainly smaller, and less weight than my toiletry kit!

This little gem has been my go-to day pack for longer trips, I have brought it on virtually all my trips in the last 4 years. I’m not really an ultra minimalist, so I haven’t tried to travel with it alone. I didn’t even think it was big enough to fit everything. Usually this packable daypack gets added to my luggage, and brought out when I am roaming around town. It’s a great size for a daypack, ultra lightweight, and inexpensive.

Packing the Best Packable Daypack

I was really impressed with the performance of this bag. This thing packs down so small, it is ridiculous, you can fit it in your pocket! Yet it’b big enough for all my stuff, it easily holds enough gear for 4 full days of travel. I think if you really went ultra minimalist here with wool clothes, and minimal electronics, you could really travel almost indefinitely with this bag.

All my gear fits easily into this best packable daypack.

This bag is really designed to be a small packable daypack. It isn’t designed for long-term one bag travel. It is sturdy, and water resistant, however the material is thin and the shoulder straps are very skimpy. It wouldn’t really be a good packable daypack if it was large and heavy. The bag does actually hold quite a large amount of gear however. If you really pushed it and over-stuffed this bag it would probably hold more than you would be comfortable carrying.

It fits! With room to spare =) this might be my new world travel bag (unless I’m going somewhere cold and need a jacket that is).
