Details and Buy

Material, Colors, Sizes

The Baubax 2.0 travel jacket is made out of 100% water resistant polyester. It is designed as a full functional cold-weather travel jacket, not as a rain coat. We tested the water resistance, and agree with the BauBax assessment. It will repel water and keep you dry in small showers. However, once the outer fabric becomes soaked, it will lose all of its water resistant properties.

Sizing

The sizes of the Bomber Jacket seem to be pretty accurate. A common complaint from the 1.0 version was that the jacket tended to run small. They seem to have fixed this in the updated 2.0 model. I ordered a large and it fits me as expected, if anything the arm length could be a tad longer, but the fit on the main jacket is great.

Warmth and Comfort

The Baubax 2.0 Travel Jacket is designed for cold weather in the 45°F – 72°F (7°C to 22°C) range. The gloves and hood are detachable, which allows for some temperature flexibility. I tested the jacket in winter in Southern California, and while not known for sub-zero temps, it does become quite chilly in the winter. This jacket will keep you quite warm in cold weather.

Features

BauBax products are the swiss-army-knife of travel outerwear. It’s a great option for one bag travel. A majority of the features are extremely useful, with a few extras thrown in for fun. They advertise 20+ features, including a “secret pocket”, which I have broken down into two broad categories: the Pockets, and the Accessories.

The 20+ features Breakdown

Exterior Pockets (4)

Hand Warming Pockets (2) – The hand warming pockets are standard jacket side pockets. They are considered warming, because they are lined with a fuzzy fleece material. The right pocket contains the extendable keychain/whistle/bottle opener.

Front Passport and Drink Pocket

Passport PocketA top left breast pocket with is designed to fit your passport, with a side zipper to make it more accessible. This pocket is slightly larger than a standard passport, but will probably not accommodate a larger passport wallet.

Drink Pocket – You will probably not use this pocket for its intended purpose. This front breast pocket is great for small items, but a drink pocket it is not. While you can technically fit a small can or bottle in this pocket, it looks silly, and is uncomfortable.

Interior Pockets (9)

Tablet Pocket on BauBax Travel Jacket

Tablet Pocket (iPad Pocket)The tablet pocket is located on the inside-right side, towards the bottom. It is designed to hold a large tablet in the horizontal orientation, but a smaller tablet 8” or less can be stored in either orientation.

The Women’s version is slightly smaller, and is advertised to hold an ipad mini (8” x 5.2”). The Men’s version is larger, and will hold a 10.5” iPod Pro (9.8” x 6.8”). I tested the pocket with an Amazon HD 8” (8.4” x 5”) and it fits with plenty of extra room.

Baubax 2.0 travel jacket RFID pocket
RFID Safe “Secret” Pocket

Secret PocketThe not-so-secret, secret pocket is a small RDIF safe pouch that attaches inside the tablet pocket with self-fastener strips. I assume the intended purpose is to use it to store your wallet or credit cards while on the road, as it isn’t very useful as an actual wallet. It is doubtful that most people will find this pocket useful however, it feels more like a marketing ploy than a functional travel pocket.

Interior Sunglass, Tablet, and Pen Pockets

Sunglass Pocket with Microfiber ClothCarrying your sunglasses case on the road can be cumbersome. It’s nice to have a dedicated pocket to store your sunglasses

Pencil Pocket (Apple Pencil Pocket)This slim little pocket is located next to the tablet pocket. It will fit any pencil or pen just fine, not just an Apple Pencil. Of course, with the extendable pen included in the zipper, you may not need another one.

Interior Cell phone, Earbud, Earplug, Travel Blanket, and Battery Pocket

Phone PocketA small zippered pocket located on the inside, upper left of the jacket. It allows you easy access to your phone, with a side zipper.

Earplug and Earbud PocketThese two little pockets are handy for tiny items. Each one is about 2” x 3”, secured with a hook and loop fastener. You can store any little items in these pockets, but they are the perfect size for a set of earplugs, and a small earbud case.

Powerbank and Blanket PocketThere is a large pocket/pouch located on the bottom left of the travel jacket, opposite from the tablet pocket. It is essentially one large pocket, with a hook and loop fastener separating it into two smaller pouches. It was designed to fit a larger power bank, and the included travel blanket. Separate the fastener and you can store larger items in this pocket. With no zippers or fasteners keeping the pocket closed, this is probably not the best place to store valuables.

Accessories

Baubax 2.0 travel jacket eye mask with blanket
Darkness reigns inside the BauBax 2.0 Travel Jacket

Detachable Hood w/ Eye MaskThe hood is one of the best features on the Baubax travel jacket. Its comfy, and keeps out the cold with a collar attached at the neck with metal buttons. The eye mask sounds gimmicky, but is actually a great feature on planes. It stays out of the way with a small button when not needed. Pull it down, and you are instantly engulfed in darkness.

Baubax 2.0 travel jacket neck pillow with blanket
Stowable inflatable neck pillow and travel blanket

Inflatable Neck PillowTravel pillows are a godsend on longer flights when you need sleep, but they tend to be large and bulky. And what do you do with them when you arrive at your destination? The Baubax 2.0 travel jacket solves this problem with an inflatable neck pillow, which is stored in a pocket in the hood.

The claim of 2 second inflation is not an understatement. It inflates incredibly quickly using the 2-way valve, and deflates almost as quickly. Storing again easily into the hood pouch. While not as comfortable as some larger travel pillows, it is actually quick comfy considering the slim size and ease of storage.

Detachable GlovesThe gloves are one of the least functional items in this jacket. They are attached with several fastener strips that tend to unhook when you remove your arms from the jacket. The tabs on the fastener strips have sharp edges that poke into your wrists when the gloves are attached. Luckily they are detachable, the jacket is better off without them.

Baubax 2.0 travel jacket keychain whistle
Keychain, Whistle, and Bottle Opener

Keychain with Bottle Opener / WhistleThis is one of those “Swiss army knife” accessories. The right outside hand warmer pocket contains a retractable keychain, with a bottle-opener slash whistle. It’s a handle little too to have on the road. It attaches with a small button strap inside the pocket, if you want to lose the whistle, or attach your own keys.

Baubax 2.0 travel jacket pen stylus
Zipper-Pull Stylus and Pen

Zipper Pen + StylusHaving a retractable pen as a zipper pull is a fantastic idea. I can’t tell you how many people don’t have a pen when they are asked to fill out the required visa paperwork before arriving in a new country. Problem solved! BauBax even includes an extra 3 pen inserts so you never run out of ink.

Earphone Holder and Airpod Straps3 small loops located just under the collar will keep your earphones in place while on the road. If you own Airpods, they also include a rubber strap which will keep them from getting lost when you take them out of your ears. I’m not sure I would trust these straps as a long-term storage solution, but they are great while on the airplane.

Baubax 2.0 travel jacket accessories
Accessories Included with Baubax 2.0 Travel Jacket

Water Bottle, Footrest & BlanketA couple of extra accessories throw in as icing on the travel jacket cake. The water bottle is a small, foldable 16 oz bottle with a carabiner clip. The blanket is a large sized, polyester blanket on the thin side. It’s about the same size as the free blankets you get on airplanes. And while it won’t keep you warm in a blizzard, it’s a nice little wrap for those chilly flights. The footrest is comfortable, but most minimalist travelers won’t see the extra weight as worth it.

Some Final Thoughts

Baubax 2.0 travel jacket stitching flaws
Interior Stitching Flaws

Stitching

While the jacket is well put together and looks really great on the outside, the interior stitching has some flaws. None of the stitching on my jacket has come apart, so it doesn’t seem to affect the construction. It does however, make the construction of the travel jacket seem rushed.

Left-handed zipper

Despite being a men’s jacket, the zipper-pull is located on the left side. Traditionally in the US, men’s jacket zipper pulls are located on the right side. In Europe and many other regions in the world, the standard is to place the zipper pull on the left. This zipper configuration can be confusing, and difficult to operate at first for men in the US who are accustomed to the standard right-side zipper. I assure you, this is not a woman’s jacket, and you will get used to the reversed zipper configuration.

Washing

The BauBax 2.0 Travel Jacket is machine wash friendly. They recommend you wash it cold, on the normal cycle, then air dry in the shade. Be sure to remove the accessories before washing: pen/stylus, RFID pocket, keychain, whistle/bottle opener, AirPod straps, earplugs, and neck pillow.

Summary

The BauBax 2.0 Travel Jacket is a great, multi-pocketed travel jacket that a majority of travelers will find useful. Some of the accessories are handier than others, but the modular design allows you to decide what items you need, and leave the rest at home. The lack of a waterproof shell is a definite downside, for a jacket this expensive, it should be more weather resistant.

Pros

  • Lots of pockets
  • Detachable hood
  • Fits well, comfortable

Cons

  • Not water proof
  • Heavy (2.2 lbs)
  • Detachable gloves don’t work well
